Omkareshwar – The Sacred Island of 'Om'.

Visit the divine island of Omkareshwar, shaped like the sacred symbol 'Om', and home to one of the twelve revered Jyotirlingas.

Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga – A Confluence of Divinity and Nature

Experience the serene and powerful atmosphere of Omkareshwar, where the Narmada river flows around an island that naturally forms the shape of the Hindu symbol 'Om'.

Omkareshwar, located on an island called Mandhata in the Narmada river in Madhya Pradesh, is a significant Hindu pilgrimage site. It is home to the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. The island's unique shape, resembling the sacred 'Om' symbol, adds to its spiritual importance.

The main temple, Shri Omkar Mandhata, is an ancient structure with beautiful carvings. The Jyotirlinga here is unique as it is not a solid lingam but is naturally formed and always has water around it. Another important temple on the island is the Amareshwar (or Mamleshwar) temple, located on the south bank of the river. Devotees often visit both temples to complete their pilgrimage.

The serene environment, with the holy Narmada river flowing gently around the island, creates a tranquil and meditative atmosphere. A boat ride on the Narmada and a 'parikrama' (circumambulation) of the island are considered highly auspicious activities. A visit to Omkareshwar offers a perfect blend of spiritual solace and natural beauty, making it a memorable pilgrimage for anyone seeking divine blessings and peace.
